Get on a call with friends
One of if not the most enjoyable aspects of school is socialising, and during lockdown this becomes much harder to do. Something that can help with this is using video or voice calls to help connect with friends. Older students are likely to be able to sort calls out themselves, but as a parent of a younger child, you can help set your child up in calls with their school friends. You can also use this to help with home schooling. Whether it is you being there to act as a teacher or it is simply a few friends all learning the same topic, having some people to chat to makes learning less boring. It's important not to get distracted and ignore the learning, but chatting to people as one would in a classroom can be immensely more enjoyable than learning alone. Group learning has a whole range of benefits: lower levels of anxiety and stress, greater motivation to learn, and development of problem solving skills.
This can be achieved in a variety of ways. We recommend applications like Whatsapp, Discord, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Houseparty and Zoom, which all provide ways to get in touch.
